Cath was commissioned to write a book of non-fiction for The Womens's Press
in 2000, but after submitting the manuscript and agreeing a cover, sadly they put the
press up for sale! So, despite the graft and working with THREE different editors over a six month period (oh yes, something was up...) her 84,000 words never got published.
The shock may well have fuelled her interest in poetry...
A former freelance journalist with Diva, The Pink Paper, Live Arts News,
etc., Cath edited Manchester mag Queer Soul for 18 months. During this time
she also wrote an article on women in uniform for the intellectual
fetish mag Skin Two. This was later used by St Martin's College, London.
for students on a design course - something to do with the semiotics of clothing...
In the mid-nineties she co-presented Gaytalk on BBC GMR for three years,
and - proving that she had more than just 'a face for radio'- went on to
be a Club Lash (flyer) Cover Girl. 5 years as a goddess proved enough though,
and a year after moving to Liverpool she passed on the reins to fellow co-founder
(and poet) Roise Lugosi.
Cath received a development grant in 2003 to work on her play, A Real Man's
Man. She travelled the UK, did interviews and transcribed the discs... But
whilst it was a brilliant idea and did get finished, the play is not as
good as it should be, so is sitting in a filing cabinet...
Most recently (for work) Cath was co-ordinator of the Dead Good Poets Society from 2002- 2006. The longest any co-ordinator has been in post! She brought in funding to make the post 3 days per week (up from 5 hours per week) and moved it into a city centre office. She also introduced new projects and training. She is proudest of having established the Poetry reading groups at Central Library, Liverpool, and Bebington Library, Wirral. She leaves DGPS in the capable hands of Sarah Maclennan.
